W got the ferry over to Koh Phangan and straight away booked up a dorm for a few days time. We found a nice play to stay in the meantime that had a hommock by the front door, had to be a winner. We were just in time for happy hour on the beach so we made the most of the cocktails on the 'party beach'. As it was our anniversary, Kirsty was sneaky and took us for a really nice mexican meal, wine and all the trimmings. When we went to find some cheap vodka, we came across 'Red Cock', which called itself 'White Spirit'. It didnt peel the paint off the hotel walls so we assumed it would be safe. So commenced night one. It already felt like a full moon party as the beach was packed. There were fire skipping ropes, fire hoops, fire breathing and loud pumping music from every bar/club along the beach.
The next day we went along to sunset beach (on the other side of Had Rin) and had a really nice meal, on the sand, right next to the sea as we watched the sunset. needless to say it was a chilled one tonight. We then moved into Jaya's dorm, where Dan had recommended to stay, and as it turned out we were in the same room! We decided to have another crack at hiring a scooter. The roads out of Had Rin were literally like a rollercoaster and were actually quite scary. However, one you were on the flat road it was fine. We drove all the way to the top of the island at Ko Ma. We passed the place where Sam is going to be doing his Thaiboxing in a few weeks. It was really nice up there and we got to have a little swim about.
The next few nights consisted of getting up late, getting on the booze at the hostel, then hitting the beach for an awsome night out with everyone from the hostel. Simon tried and failed to do the fire skipping rope and ended up smelling of gasoline and burnt hair all night. The night before the ful moon, we went to a pool party at one of the hotels, where an enormous storm came over. It didn't really matter as we were wet anyway, and it just made the party a bit more mental.
The full moon party was something special. Even watching everything being set up, from the stages to the 'sleeping area', (yes, sleeping area) during the day enhanced the excitement. It was also today that Derrick was going to be arriving. We all got painted up in UV colours and headed down to the beach. It was ten times busier that it had been on other nights, and there were a whole new set of bars and clubs opened up. Our usual bucket stand, 'Tony's Bar' looked after us giving discountd buckets and freebies. Kirst did the fire slide and most of us ended up partying till the sun came up. It was a really cool sight to see, and equally funny as you realise that all around you are passed out people a million miles away from the sleeping area.
The last night was really fun as well, as it was a kinda farewell to most, and a celebration of 8 straight nights out. A well needed detox me thinks.
