Arrived off the sleeper train to Jaisalmer and got tuk tuks the rest of the way. The one thing you cant avoid here are the cows - they literally everywhere! We felt very dirty from sleeping in the same clothes and being in the heat so there was a lot of excitment when we found the hotel had a swimming pool, which we pretty much lounged round in for the day. On the night we went to a beautiful lake with a lovely archway that a woman built for the king. After the tuk tuks took us further out of town for us to watched the sunset at the centopthas (think thats how its spelt lol, its basically a memorial for past kings and there queens). We had dinner together overlooking the town at a nice resturant, but thats when Kirsty was bitten badly on her legs! A couple of us then chilled at the hotel with a nice large kingfisher beer.
The next day some people got up very early to go to the Jaisalmer Fort with a tour guide, but as we'd had a late night and plans for the night we decided to spend a bit of time chilling out by the pool in the sun. At about 3 we all gathered to get ready for the night, then a hour later some old style, open air jeeps were waiting to take us to the desert. It took about an hour and we were all surprised when we arrived at the desert camp site - each pair had a little tent style house with a bathroom and a pourch. We were then led out the back to see our camels waiting, ours was called Rocket. We rode over the sand dunes, through the desert which was amazing. After amount half an hour we jumped off to watch the sunset in the desert - some desert dwelling guy appeared with Kingfisher for everyone - a perfect moment. When the sun went down we jumped back on the camels for a race back to the camp - we were speeding along until Si dropped his sunnies lol. In the campsite there was a courtyard for us to have dinner while some gypsys came to sing and perform a typical Rajaistan dance - a couple even joined in which was very funny. We then went out the back of the site to sit in the dark, watching the stars, while getting tipsy on beer and whiskey while dancing to the ipod. There were a lot of insects at night and it was pretty hot so didnt get much sleep at all.
Up at dawn to go to the courtyard for breakfast then in the jeeps again to get back into Jaisalmer. Since Kirsty's bites had got so swollen it was hurting her walking on it, so she rested while Simon had a long walk to the Fort before relising he'd forgot the camera so came back. We then got a tuk tuk together to the Fort, and had a wander round all the little passage ways and rustic streets. We then went back to the hotel and had a little swim before going to dinner back at the Fort on the night. The food took hours to be prepared so Raj paid for everyones meal as he felt so embarressed for suggesting going there, although when it came the food was lovely.
