We made a visit to the must-see ruins of Tulum. Built on cliffs overlooking the gorgeous beaches by the Mayans as early as 500 AD, it had is heyday much later (1200 - 1521 A.D.). It was rediscovered in the 1840's. As we got there though, all the American tourists visiting the place on a day tour from Cancun turned out to be more of a sight then the ruins! I've never seen a place so full of tourists! Totally overcrowded.
