We ended our group trip with a few days in Cuzco. Watching Emperor's New Groove the first day helped us get in the groove. We walked around the city, went on a panoramic bus tour, ate great food, and visited a few interesting old churches. One church had the interior altars covered in thousands of small mirrors. The explanation we were given is that when the church was built in the 1500's the mirrors were to act as a curiosity to the local indigenous people and draw them into the the church to aid the process of conversion.
"!vamos vamos vamos garcillaso!" Was the cheer for the local cusquena soccer team we went to see on Easter Sunday. It was very fun. We quickly learned which team to root for, that whistling was "booing", and that having your home stadium at12,000 ft of altitude gives a big home field advantage.
The next morning we had to split up and say goodbye. 20+hours of planes and layovers for some and for others a night bus to Bolivia.
