We are Family!
The main purpose of starting my trip in Canada was to attend the Daniels Family Reunion that was taking place this weekend on the farm of Doug & Lee Anne. Here I was able to meet with many of my great great grandmothers descendants with people coming from all over North America - California, Atlanta, Michigan, Vancouver and of course Ontario. It was great to meet and be re-acquainted with so many relations and I spent most of the weekend chatting to them all.
The weekend was fairly relaxed with the highlight for me being a chance to see some of the 100 cows Doug has on his farm being milked! They have managed to get this system down to a fine art so it takes around 60 - 90 minutes to milk all the cows using machines and I found it fascinating to watch!! I also got the chance to visit Jennifer's partner Ron's farm and got to see miniature ponies, horses and Llama's as well as watching the kids "drive" Ron's tractor with him.
The main part of the event was also a celebration of Lee Anne and Doug's 20th Wedding Anniversary which took place on Saturday evening. Here we got to eat some amazing local beef, dance to some Canadian and Country & Western Music (don't worry everyone I didn't buy a CD although some may say it will improve my record collection!) and well as experience the local (well American!) beer - fortunately the hangover wasn't too bad this morning!!!
