Good-day Mate! After 13 months of travel, logistics and sore backs, we opted to splurge and take a 14-day cruise from Sydney to Auckland, New Zealand. Since we bought the cruise the day before departure, we were ill-prepared for the "formal" nights on-board. Imagine 1,500 evening gown and tuxedo clad couples (all north of 75 years-old) milling about the ship -- champagne flutes in-hand. Down in steerage, I put on my Sunday-best -- flip-flops, jeans and an REI weather-proof long-sleeve that would make Steve Irwin proud. Crikee! Nat bought a few dresses in Bangkok so she was able to blend in without drawing stares. Luckily, we found a Salvation Army here in Tasmania where I was able to pick up an incredibly ugly green high school uniform blazer (with yellow coat of arms), a blue paisley tie from a long-deceased gentlemen and a pair of trousers that will undoubtedly hurt your eyes if you stare; we can't wait for the next "Dinner with the Captain" formal!!!
