Wally's Travels
I know it is now 2.5 weeks ago that i was in Hong kong but better late than never. Whilst in Honkers for a 14 hour lay over I thought I would head off on a little tour to the Po Lin Monastry. I had plans of taking the organised tour however this was not to be because apparently people book ahead all the time!! so I went and found a very helpful young man who gave me directions for the public transport route to the buddha and off i went.
After being on a bus, thankfully air-conditioned, for 40 minutes of winding roads we arrived and to my amazement (nice word for horrification) we arrived at the base of about 3 gazillion stairs which were to be climed to get to the buddha. but as they say nothing is easy. I started up the stairs which were nice and wet due to the rain earlier that day and the humidity was thru the roof, but i just kept on moving and eventually got to the top.
The tallest outdoor bronze buddha is amazing. There are a few photos in my photo albums so check them out. i mozied around the museum and took some photos but mainly just sat and enjoyed the views. a really awesome place.
I then headed down the 3 gazzillion stairs and to the monastry for a wonderful vegetarian snack and an enormous drink of water before I found my way back to the bus and to the airport again.
I would recommend the trip for anyone wanting to pass some time in Hong Kong and not wanting to shop.
Peace
K
