Howdy all,
I've been in London for almost a fortnight now. I as yet don't have a job (in the works) or a place to live (scouring the net as we speak), but more importantly, I have planned my major travelling movements for the next couple of years.
So far the plan is to get a six month contract to do some sort of Engineering work London and then either extend it for another six months, or maybe go somewhere else, possibly Edinburgh over the summer. Between those two chunks of work , I plan on heading back over to Europe for a month to finish off all the places I feel need proper travelling (that is, more than a week or weekend), so the current plan is Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Bosnia. If time permits I'd be tempted to head back to Croatia as well as I didn't really spend enough time there last year.
So when my visa runs out at the end of next year I'd say I'll return home (maybe with a short stopover in Japan) for all the good stuff, Christmas, Falls Festival, Taste of Tassie and all of that. Probably hang around until Easter cause Tassie is holding the Easter 3-Day orienteering event and we always put a good event on.
Then after that.... well although I only spent three days there last year, I'd really like to live in Canada so I'm thinking about doing a year working in the maple leaf county. Like the UK, you can only get a working holiday visa before you turn 30, so 2009 is the last year I can do that. 30. Ugh.
One thing I realised over the last couple of months, is that the travelling that usually creates the strongest memoirs and rewarding experiences is touring touring through the poorer, less developed countries where the culture is more different to our own (hence the more Eastern Europe route next summer), I admit I struggled to write some of my blogs this trip, just cause in some places there was nothing that 'blog-worthy' going on, especially compared to last year.
So based on that, and since I'll be heading to Canada from Australia, I figure it'd be rude not to stop by South America for at least a couple of months. From all the stories I've been hearing of that place lately, I can't believe it's taken me this long to put it on my itinerary!
So that's my current thoughts. I've come to the realisation that this is the most far advanced life plan I've ever had! For the naysayers out there, I am actually genuinely interested in visiting all those places and not just travelling to them to cross them off a list.
I'll post a blog some time on my first London impressions. Since I'm sure half of you reading this have already been there it won't be that ground breaking - at least it'll give you something to procrastinate work over.
