Well finally arrived in Equador, seems like a very green and lovely country! First we stopped at a city called Cuenca, home of the Panama hat. Nice city but only there for a night so short and sweet. Then we had a long long long journey to a town called Banos, which the main feature are the waterfalls and the hot thermal springs. First on the agenda, a bit of adventure sport! This comes in the form of canyoning, aka absailing down waterfalls. There was a set of 3 falls, all at varying heights. Pri to this you get kitted out in what only can be called 'adventure sport fashion'! One full wet suit, with stunning under jacket, followed by a over sized yellow nappy, then a pair of school plimsols and the icing on the cake, a bright blue helmet. Beautiful! After descending the first waterfall i found out what the nappy was for, sliding down the side of the waterfall on your backside, shortly followed by back flipping at the end of the descent! The next was the highest at 41m, going on your hands and knees backwards towards the drop till you reach the edge, was not the most natural thing on earth to do, but well worth. Descending down with a waterfall poring over you was so breath taking.
With some spare time the next day, thought i might squeeze in some quad biking. Now last time i did this was in the middle of a desert out of harms way. Not in Equador. You pick your bike and helmet, sign a piece of paper are shown the ropes and away you go. On the normal roads that is! So slightly challenging trying to learn how to drive one with a huge bus overtaking you. But went off road a bit as well to check the mountains and volcanos they have here, and survived, will sick to driving cars tho! Next, The Equador Rainforest! x
