So.. I arrived in Bangkok,Thailand on Sunday- it was so hot and humid (I am still not used to it!). Got off the bus from the airport and got my first bombardment of tuktuk drivers trying to take me anywhere and everywhere for a massively inflated price (mmm tourist=$$$$$$$).. so I ignored them and decided to almost kill myself in the heat and walk to the hostel with my stupidly overpacked bag (full off stuff I probs dont need and will no doubt throw away over the next couple of weeks - am already a pair of shoes, a book and a t-shirt down) I found Leo in the hostel and was so glad for the air con (a bit of luxury for our first night!).
Bangkok was so busy with thai people with stalls on the side of the street and was quite a hectic place. We didnt do much there except visit a giant buddah and wonder about- we also had to visit the shopping centre for a few essentials for leo and donna (who we met in the hostel).
Monday evening we got the over night train to Chang Mai up north (Donna came along too and has stuck with us for the last few days)- a bit cooler up north but not much! It is much more chilled out here though and far less busy than Bangkok.. The first day we wondered about the city and then visited a couple of temples, you have to cover your shoulders and take off your shoes when you go inside- it is very beautiful and peaceful and was nice to see a bit of Thai culture.
We then went on a 3 day trek. This was more my kinda thing! We first drove up into the rain forest and then went elephant riding for about an hour, this was really cool but they move really slowly and I cant imagine going a long distance on them as they must have done back in the day before cars! The elephants were also a bit hairier than I expected ha ha!
We then walked up the mountain for the afternoon which was quite challenging in the heat and humidity- it was a very sweaty experience for all involved! We walked until we got to a small mountain village where we are and stayed for the night.
The 2nd day we had a much easier walk (as it was mainly down hill) and swam in some waterfalls n sat about in the sun (which we havent seen much of as it has been fairly cloudy) until it poured it down with rain (its the rainy season)! I was very glad for my bag cover or everythig would have been soaked!!!
We then stayed at a little jungle camp and then today we went white water rafting and bamboo rafting (and again got very wet). The bamboo rafting was more what I would call bamboo submarining but it was hillarious and leos waterproof camera came in handy!
We are meeting up with the others from our treking group tonight for a few drinks but I think a nap may be in order before that!
