A driving day from Manning Gorge to King Edward River Campsite. We stopped at Drysdale Station for a break around lunchtime and couldn’t walk past their bar in the front garden with hot chips and burgers smelling delish. Our snack situation has dwindled alarmingly (if you ask the kids) due to exorbitant prices of said goods, so we were all ‘starving’ and apparently had been for the whole last two hours since we left. Last bar that far north, with a reminder sticker at the bar at how un-Australian it is to visit an outback pub and not have a drink. We hopefully asked if we could buy takeaways but knew the answer before we got it would be no. Poor Matty no beer :(
Tommy and I especially liked the big red complaints button ‘press here’ nestled inside a rabbit trap on the wall.
We headed out for the last 100km which still took us 2 hours to arrive at a bush campsite on the King Edward River. This was a very spread out setup with fire rings and eco toilets spread out amongst the trees where several cows with very large wild looking horns were grazing seemingly oblivious to any human activity going on around them. Nice to be spread out, sent the kids scavenging for some wood after setup and wishing we had bought a chainsaw.
Matt suggested a walk to checkout the falls nearby, I was only half keen but ended up being a beautiful spot. In amongst the signs warning of crocs was a deep pool complete with ladder for swimming. Ended up being a balmy evening enjoying the sunset in the water - again! Nice to have a fire to sit around and relax after a hard day’s driving for all but especially for Matty, with prospect of more of the same for next few days.
