On Sunday, we were planning a lazy day, and we were commenting on how Roark was starting to shed, and we would probably give him a bath later when the sun warmed up!!!
Roark went to lie down in Gretchen's room for a while, and after a bit Lisa went to check on him, cos she thought he wasn't himself today!!! She found that he had been sick, so she cleaned it up, and while she was busy with that, I was sitting with him, and he was panting really hard and his limbs were all floppy and he was just lying there, and didn't seem like he was taking in much air... I said to her, he isn't well, maybe we should take him to the vet... she then called the emergency vet, and told them what was going on... they said to bring him in.
We got him in the car, and left here at around 12h30, got to the vet by 12h50, and they had to carry him, cos he collapsed on the floor as we walked in... they came out to tell us they had put him on oxygen, and he had fluid on the lungs, and his chest cavity was swollen, and they wanted to xray to see what was causing it... suspected heart disease... Anyway, after 10 minutes, they said we could go in and be with him... Oh my God, it was so difficult to see him like that... they had an oxygen mask on him, and I could tell that his system was shutting down... Lisa was so upset, she was just hugging him and talking to him... It is just so unbelievable... he was fine, and all of a sudden his system started shutting down... he had lost function of his bowl and bladder, his tongue was hanging out, and his limbs started going stiff and arching his back and the next thing the nurse called the vet, and before we knew it, he had died!!! We have been crying all day, and just can't believe how suddenly he has gone.....
Lisa is in an awful state!!! She has just gone out for a walk with Roark's leash, and she hasn't stopped crying since yesterday!!! I am also very sad, but I don't know what to do for her!!
In loving memory of Roark who lived a good life and loved his family unconditionally to his sudden death. He will always be remembered and never be replaced!!! Rest in Peace faithful friend!!!
