Greetings blogreaders
Yesterday after a couple of days of lazing around we decided to go mountain biking. Bearing in mind our definition of mountain biking just means renting a mountain bike not actually biking up mountains (not in this heat!). We headed off after an English breakfast and cycled towards the 'Devis Falls' (not Devils!) which was quite spectacular if a little dry. Across the road are some more caves with an even more amazing sight.
You make your way down the tunnels through the rock until you end up at a sort of temple with a life size model cow covered in flowers and coloured paint. This cow is supposed to be some kind of good luck for travel thing and for 10 rupees you pop a marble into a life size model of a cobra and the lights flash, tinny hindu music blares out and milk comes out of the cows udders onto a lingam of Shiva (a long stone basically). For an extra 10 rupees you pop a marble somewhere else, (we were too flabbergasted with the last performance to actually see where the marble went), and wee comes out of the back of the cow. All of this is to bring good luck - so I figure we are quite lucky now, not to mention being hysterically funny!
After that we cycled to the International Mountain Museum and looked at stuff about mountains including some of the rubbish taken from Everest base camp between 2002 and 2003, its quite amazing the stuff that is chucked. After a long lunch in the cool dark shade of the restaurant we headed back into Pokhara, stopping at the offices of Yeti Air to book our tickets to the Indian border and then the bus office to get our trip back to Kathmandu.
Today we are going upto the World Peace Pagoda, we have been hoping that the mist from the mountains would clear so we would have a good view but no luck yet. And after than probably a row on the lake if we are feeling energetic.
We have loaded some more photos (including the movie of the milking weeing cow!) so enjoy and keep posting messages.
