August 4th through 7th.
Hello, everyone!!I apologise for increasing the amount of time between blog posts, but I've been busy getting into school and trying to settle down into this apartment. For this blog, I've decided to set it to the Australian standard of English so you all can get a feel for what the difference of the written word is here. There are still a few things we need around here, but it's all slowly coming together. On Monday, I started school.I only had one class - my Anthropology lecture - which is supposed to be three hours long and only one day a week. The class is about art and culture and will satisfy a core elective requirement at OSU.For the rest of the year, I will also have a "Tutorial" on Monday afternoon for this class, but they are equivalent to our recitations back home, and there is never anything to discuss further after only one lecture.Monday night was laid back, but my roommates went to the Sydney Aquarium without me while I was in class… they couldn't get a hold of me and I was left to stay home and set up the router. Then, I went and enjoyed an amazing chicken sandwich over at Kevin and Gordy's.After that, I came home, watched some good American TV (Simpsons, friends, and America's next to model - like 2 seasons ago, though) then went to bed.Tuesday, I didn't have class til 4, so Jen, Allyson, and I slept in then walked the 6 blocks west to the Macquarie Centre Mall, and had lunch. We also picked up some supplies from the "reject shop" - like the dollar tree, but most things are more than a dollar. We got a bathmat, some soap, velvet posters with which we'd decorate our living room with, trash bags, reusable dish towels, and I got some wash cloths. After that, they had to head to class, to I lugged all the supplies back home and sat on the comp trying to upload pictures, with no avail, as I'm sure you've noticed.I went to class at 4, my Animal Behaviour lecture - the reason I came to this University, and enjoyed it all too much.I'm so excited for this course, as it is taught by a guy with much background in animal behaviour and psychology.I have the lecture only once a week, but it is two hours long, with a practical (lab) for four hours on Friday mornings - except for this week, as we don't have practicals either. After class, I walked home - it was freezing!I had leftover chicken Caesar salad from lunch with some pasta, and went to bed a while after that. On Wednesday I had class at an early 10am for an hour - my philosophy of biology and psychology class, which lasted an hour; we basically just talked about Gregor Mendel's theory of inheritability - which made me wonder what the whole class was actually going to cover... as long as I get credit back home, I'll sit through the repeat lesson!Since I had the afternoon open, Kevin and Gordy invited me to make my way to the Sydney Aquarium with them, an invite I could not pass up.We got there around 1pm, I think, maybe two, and slowly made our way through. It was amazing! There were sea lions, sharks, eels, seahorses, a crocodile, stingrays, tons of freshwater fish and even more saltwater fish, sea turtles, squid, cuttlefish, giant crabs and lobsters, a PLATYPUS!, touch pools, and tons more.It was spectacular!I took tons of pictures and videos until my camera finally died, all of which will take months for me to post at the rate I've been able to get them up.When we bought our passes, we bought a three way thing that got us into the aquarium, will get us into the wildlife park, and into Sydney tower - all for $50!We decided we'll go to the other destinations other days, just to spread our available afternoons out. Before taking the bus home, we decided to get dinner at the Pyremont Hotel, a restaurant/bar right by.When we got home, we stopped at the bottle shop (liquor store) across the street and bought 2 30packs of crap beer for $40 each... not all for one night, no worries! Then I took my case back to my apartment, and my roommates and I started to get ready for the night.Where the bottle shop is, there is a bar connected - the bar was hosting a back to school themed night of "Naughty School Boys and Girls".Since I didn't pack appropriate costume wear, I borrowed a skirt from Jen and we prefunked over at Kevin and Gordy's with a ton of other people. When we got to the venue, it was packed and hot, but there was good music, cheap beer, and lots of dancing.I didn't drink while I was there because I didn't want to get drunk - just have fun.We left around 1am and passed out at home.Thursday began just as Wednesday had, same class and everything, but after class I met up with a new friend from Sydney named James. We went to lunch and he answered a lot of questions I had about the area and the culture. He said that our school is known for being a party school, which was something I thought was just part of Australian culture, but I guess not!Later on, my roommates and I met up with him and some of his friends at what is known as the Uni Bar - The bar right in the middle of campus that only students are allowed to go to.On Thursdays, the Uni Bar sells $2 beers until 10pm, so that was good... but again, I only had a couple beers.Saving money and still having fun come hand in hand: JI left around 1 am because I was super tired, but my roomies stayed out and had some extra fun.
Today (Friday), we all woke up around 11am and then went to lunch at Subway up at Macquarie Centre. Now we're just chilling in our apartment deciding on when we want to head to the gym for a free workout class.Tonight, we're going to see our friend's band play somewhere in Sydney... but first the gym!
