So I'm finally in South America after my detour through Canada and a flight with its own special way of killing my enthusiasm for more travel.
I left Kingston at midday for my 11:45pm flight from Toronto thanks to a bus timetable which didn't understand people have late flights. I was so early I couldn't even check my bag in until four hours after I arrived! However I managed to find a padded bench (in Starbucks) and spent most of my time reading and snacking. I'm now 600 pages into my 1000 page book as a result of this so not a complete loss. 15 minutes before we were due to depart Air Canada discovered that it's plane was defective in some unspecified way. Less than keen to get on this broken aircraft we then waited again for a replacement to be found. Thankfully Air Canada seems to have a few spares lying around so we were only delayed half an hour or so. Flying, movies, reading, more movies, Santiago stopover were uneventful except for the angry Chilean in my seat but the arrival in Buenos Aires airspace was amidst a mighy thunder storm which caused the pilot to divert to Montevideo in Uraguay so that we would not be disturbed by the turbulence. Suck it up Air Canada I say, Pete's plane landed safely at that time. So despite only being a 30 minute flight from BA we had to sit in the plane for 5 hours while waiting for the weather to clear. Fun times. I arrived finally and took the lazy option of a Taxi to the hostel, ghetting there just before midnight. Not much of a story so far but the it is the first step of a journey. Hopefully I remain motivated enough to keep updating this. Adios!
