Lisa and I arrived in Mumbai airport after a marathon 9 hour flight and were quickly thrust into the chaos of the terminal. It took us a long time to navigate the rabbit warren of arrivals only to learn that we needed to collect our bags when we had been told they would be forwarded automatically. Back at the luggage belt we soon realised our bags - along with some others had been "mis-placed". A porter was quick to run away in search of them. Some 30 minutes later and our bags were returned. Lord knows where they were found - probably half way down the run way or something...
A long wait in the domestic terminal left both our tempers and patience frayed. But we managed to keep calm long enough to arrive in Goa without incident - i.e. killing someone.
We took a long taxi down to Palolem in the south of Goa. Palolem has a pretty palm fringed beach guarded on each side by a rocky headland. The water was reasonaby calm. To begin with Lisa and I were grateful to have the beach and just relax in the sun but soon enough our itchy traveller feet were soon playing up. We needed more: culture, activities, wildlife, anything. Palolem had none of these, only an endless array of beggers and hawkers asking you to buy bracelets, scarves, etc. Always ending with the immortal words "you remember my name ok? promise to come to my shop".
Palolem had little more to offer after a few days and so we moved on.
