Alice springs was fun!! Well we made it to our hostel and had a roam round, as i said though previously theres just flies and abo's everywhere!! Tried to have an early night cause we had 04:30am pick up in the morning. Found it quite difficult though cause our room was colder than the Antartic and i had the air-con unit blowing right on me, which was fun. Then as i got up at around 4 to go and have a wash before going to get the bus, i noticed 2 of the ugliest people i have ever seen at it in the swimming pool... Morning!! haha. Not really what i wanted to see before breakfast!
Anyway got the bus and fell asleep for a couple of hours and woke up to a bus of 20 odd people! First stop was King Canyon where we done a short hike in 38 degree heat! It was hot... too hot!! But the views were pretty class and seeing Kate's face at the end was quite enjoyable as it was bright red!! Then we carried on to Ayers rock where we got to watch it as the sun set!! Believe me this is one of the best things i have ever seen and im not spiritual or anything like that but it really struck me!! That night we were all pretty tired from the 700km we had travelled so had a couple of drinks and some food and decided to seelp under the stars!! We were given these large sleeping bags called swags i was happy enough but oh no, Kate was scared of the bugs and wanted me to share hers! Which cause im a gentleman i did... however it wasnt the most comfortable experience of my life and i somehow fell asleep but managed to jam my thumb... yes thumb.. into Kates ear so got woken up with her shouting then in the morning i woke to find my arm burried in the dirt!! Not the best night sleep i have had!
That morning we headed down to Ayers Rock and by half 8 me and Katie had already walked around the base of the rock, a full 9 km. It was pretty amazing watching the sunrise over it with all the different colours and also learning about the aboriginie culture! We then travelled back viewing a few more sights in the swealtering heat and listening to alot of Backstreet boys cause the driver liked them!? Got back at around half 7 and we both crashed out because yet again had a 04.30 start to head up to Darwin, which would take 3 days and 2 nights!!
We had a wicke group on the bus this time.. there was 21 of us with alot of youngsters including a few english girls, an american girl, a sexy spanish girl to gays from US and Irealand, a couple from Dublin and some Looney Sweed!! First port of call was a place called Devils Marbles.. basically giant rocks that looked like marbles, was pretty cool but i swear it was about 200 degrees out there! Then there was some more travelling on the bus till we fianlly set up camp. This time there was permanent tents so not too bad and actually had some sleep after we got a lizard off my bed!
Next day up early early again to travel up to Katherine. This is where that guy Peter Falconio was murdered a few years back and he's girlfriend hid out in the bush. We actually went to the gas station where she was found and the story unveiled! Also went past the exact spot where his blood was found! Nice eh? when your in the middle of nowhere!! We camped over again this night and got some alcohol from the local hill billy shop!! That night we played lots of drinking games and too my shame i was actually sick... the first and only time on my trip i hope and beleive me the 6 am wake up was not good! Let alone the whole day... which included a 6km walk. I honestly thought the end was near for me, but like the soldier i am i stuck it out and didnt let the side down!!
Back on he bus finally for our fianl leg, with a short stop over at a pub where part of Crocodile Dundee was filmed... the bit weith the massive Croc apparently!? I dont really remember the film! Turns out we travelled around 1800 KM in 3 days... that is Faaaaarrrr!!! So for the last few hours we played some games which included who could eat a wheetabix the quickest without a drink, my money was on Kate but she came 3rd, also some sing songs one which i go t the whole bus doing the actions to, its called "Give me a home among the gum trees!", dont worry ill teach you all when i get back! Thirdly Magnus the Magnificent the swedish gut taught us a game starting.. This is how you play the game! in his stooopid accent, everyone was getting seriously annoyed. Again ill show you when im back it is actually quite good!!
Finally we made it to Darwin and had an arranged night out which we all went to and got a little drunk (as per usual i hear you say!) it was cheap so thats ok. Next few days in Darwin were pretty boring doing nothing watching a few films and going out just once more for a fairly eventful night which involved a few things including a sweed, an americangirl, a girl from outside london, some sex postions to win jugs of beer (Kate!! haha!!) and some serious rain. I havent seen rain like it, the roads turned to rivers!! We also had some lunatic aussie girl in our dorm, looked like a murderer and one morning we were awoken by her screaming and crying in bed!! Rather amusing... think she had cramp!
So finally started to look at our flights with Kate telling me it wasnt untill 00:30 on the 23rd!! I realised on the 21st at about 5pm she was wrong and we had to go to the airport that night cause it was at 00:30 on the 22nd!!! Close call, it wouldve made a right mess if we missed it!!! Lucky i have my head screwd on eh!!
Flight was fine kate again had a spare seat and slept on me!!!! Were in New Zealand now, wheather is pants and was sad to say goodbye to oz but my next adventure begins!! Getting on the bus at 8 am tomo... so wish me luck in that there is some good people on it!!
Hopefully next time i write this i wouldve jumped out of a plane and off a bridge attached to some elastic!! Woooo Hooo!!!
Bon Voyage for now x
