3 Days in Amsterdam
Amsterdam, Netherlands
Amsterdam, what a place! If you haven't yet had the pleasure of visiting this magical city I would try and make it a priority if you can. I have now visited Amsterdam 4 times in the last 2 years and each time I go I find a whole new reason to fall in love with the place, its such a cool, quirky and beautiful city.
My first experience was sadly only 1 day so I didn't get to see or do much in the time I had but since then I have made up for that by visiting all the incredible museums including the Rijks Museums which is home to some of the most incredible paintings I have ever seen with masterpieces from Rembrandt, Vermeer and Steen, just to name a few. Then you have the Van Gough museum and also Anne Franks house, you have to go! The story is certaintly chilling to say the least but to understand and learn how horrific it was for her, her family and other Jewish families at that time is a real eye opener.
Once you have visited all the fascinating muesums and art galleries you should head to either Leidseplein or Dam Sqaure which both have a selection of lovely restaruants and bars and also some recognisable shops like River Island and Foot Locker.
For me I wasn't interested much in the shops as I can do all that when I'm in England, for me the real experience was getting completely lost in the city which enabled me to find Jordan! Jordan is a beautiful district close to Dam Square and has so many wonderful little boutiques, antique shops, vintage restaurants and cake houses. Anne Franks House can be found close to this location too.
After a day of exploring and sight seeing we all headed to the famous Red Light District which is known for its party style, lively bars, clubs, use of cannabis and also prostitution. We tried a few bars and had a wonder around the streets but after being in such a beautiful location earlier that day it seemed quite disappointing really. It's certaintly worth a visit but be sure to visit the nicer places too. From the Red Light District we went to a nightclub called Studio 80 which is somewhere near Leidsplein and is totally discrete, there is a black wall which looks like nothing but a wall until you notice the door which you have to enter to get into the club. The doormen also questioned us to see if we "fitted in" I guess about the artists who were playing and what kind of music they play inside, not entirely sure what this is all about but besides that the club was epic!
If you're considering going just do it! Get your plane tickets booked, find a hotel, rent a bike, take a river cruise, explore the muesums and art galleries, fill your face with cakes and waffles, go clubbing and get completely wanderlust!
Just as a recommendation eShores are a fantastic travel company that offer great packages and multi centre holiday so you can infact visit up to several different destinations in Europe all in the same trip, how cool would that be!
