Up early again because we gained another hour. traveling to Stockholm looked much like cruising through the Thousand Islands with the many islands, granite rocks and houses on the islands.
It was raining for the morning but then cleared up. we took the public bus to the city and then a public ferry to the island where the famous Vasa Museum is located. the Vasa was a Swedish warship that traveled about 1000 feet after it was launched before capsizing and sinking. 30 sailors died but the ship held more than 450. the ship was brought up in 1979 and is the oldest preserved ship in the world with amazing carvings and artifacts still intact. the ship is huge and quite amazing.
hen we took the ferry back to the old town and the Swedish Royal Palace for the Changing of the Guard ceremony. It was a total non event- no music, no horses, no real ceremony- a few soldiers- very pitiful. ah we'll it would hard to match the British for pomp and ceremony.
then we walked in Old Town amidst the charming streets, did a little shopping and then took the public bus back to the ship.
