- I not sure if all these early mornings are good for me! After a tropical storm yesterday that lasted 18 hours. We wake today to a beautiful Queesland morning. Yes its 7am as we wait for a minibus to collect us to catch a boat to take us to visit some of the spectacular snorkelling sites of the inner Great Barrier Reef. Its a diving boat mainly, 36 of us, a total mixture of nationalities, divers and snorkellers of all ages. We spend our day at the table of a couple from Sweden and a pair from Holland. They all speak good English!
Firstly we visit the main island which is Whitsunday Island itself. Here we get tendered to a small beach so we can trek up through the undergrowth to see Hill inlet and a lookout point to see the most famous beach in Australia, Whitehaven! This is one of the most iconic visions on the planet. It is made up of Silica and the finest sand there is. The photos of Whitehaven and Hill Islet are famous on posters and paintings all over the world. But I can tell you to actually walk on its sands and to swim and see the fish and Manta Rays is one of the amazing parts of our trip. The sand is like pure white dust, the sea is crystal clear turquoise. It is incredible!
We then head back to our boat and sail off to Hayman Island which is one of the most northerly islands for lunch and an afternoon of diving and snorkelling on the reef. Fabulous fun, beautiful fish, more Mantas, Wrasse, Lunar Fusiliers, Angels, Butterfly fish, Batfish, and someone saw a turtle. One fantastic day
