Each night as we leave one island usually late after dinner, and head to our new destination the anchors are raised, the engines grind into gear and if like Peter and I if you are in Cabin 3 and immediately above the engine room, you can't help but wake up. Each night we are so utterly exhausted after our days adventures we collapse into bed at the very latest, around 9 so by the time we hopefully move off you can get a few hours sleep before the commotion and then gently drift off again after. Friday night this didn't happen to me! Leaving Floreana and sailing to Espanola means travelling due east, so instead of gentle rocking, we encountered a rough sea. Before 1a.m I couldn't sleep due to the boats motion. After 1.30a.m. It was impossible. Quite a proportion of travellers slept badly, I slept hardly at all until we had put down anchor along side Espanola island about 5.30am when I went sound asleep. Peter and the rest of the boat breakfasted at 7, I slept. Peter and the rest went on a 2 mile hike at 8am I slept! Rested and feeling slightly happier by 10am I rejoined the human race as the group returned from their adventure. We then all sunbathed and chilled before enjoying another fab lunch and then I could do my first trip of the day.
We head off on the Pangas to Punta Suarez on Espanola, to Gardner bay for snorkelling at 2.30p.m.. The water is still very warm even though this is the most southern of the Galapagos, but there is quite a current, but as our guide Omar says "Go with the flow" so we follow the tide around the side of a very enormous rock and spy more Tropical fish, Lobsters, spotted Ray's, Turtles, Sea lions and hundreds more varieties as well as Blue footed Boobies and Frigates swooping above us. My tiredness is holding me back so I climb back into the dingy early and eventually we all return to the boat before heading to the beach for a walk amongst the Sea lions before sunset. Hot Pizza and fresh juices await us onboard, before preparing ourselves for our nightly briefing on tomorrow's events by Omar (accompanied by a chilled glass of vino!) then it's dinner, conversation and BED!
