The hotel was wonderful, the food Sigma XI ordered was a little blah but overall the entire event resulted in an unprecedented amount of presenting experience and networking opportunities. I am so glad I was able to go on this trip.
All semester I've been feeling complete drained of my motivation to do well in my classes and excel with my research. This conference has pick me up out of that funk and given me new perspective. Getting away from Tampa has been such a great opportunity. For years I've felt so trapped in that town.
Anyhow, this conference has solidified my ultimate goal of getting a PhD fro Duke University. I've already submitted my application for molecular cancer biology. I need to get amazing grades this semester to show them I can handle being a student at their school. This is my new purpose in life.
Also, talking to these other students has opened my eyes as to how much USF is not the right place for me. Between the ridiculous class size, impossible registration and parking, pathetic undergraduate curriculum, and lack of synchronization between departments, opportunities, and funding; I am surprised I have managed to get this far.
I really hope I get the opportunity to study here in Durham. My plane leaves in an hour. It's really hard for me not to run from this plane and try to start a new life over here. But my lease and the last few weeks of this semester are two obstacles that aren't worth trying to overcome. Hopefully in due time I'll be able to move here.
