With no definite destination in mind we farewelled Arcadia after 29 nights, wrestled our luggage into and headed off in our rental car from Southampton just after ten this morning.
The lush green landscape lining the A27, reminiscent of WA's South West, provided a refreshing contrast to the maritime scenes we had become accustomed to, but still we found ourselves happy to be back by the sea at the end of the day.
Less then two hours after heading off we arrived in Brighton on what turned out to be a picture perfect day for walking the lanes and along the Pier. Priority 1 being a place to sleep we settled our seemingly excessive baggage into Brighton Hotel before heading further down the road in search of sustenance.
Stumbled on a lovely cafe in Saltdean where the parking was free and the tea cakes and tea were hot and fresh, returned the car to the hotel then enjoyed a leisurely afternoon exploring the lovely scenery and spring sunshine.
For me nothing beats the feeling of dipping my feet into the ocean after a long walk but due to my relectance to navigate a path through the stones on the seashore I settled for a long soak in the hotel room bath instead.
Looking forward to our detour to Isle of Wight in the morning thanks to an invitation from a couple we met on the cruise, even though it means driving back to where we started from today.
As for the tetras puzzle of baggage in the back of the car? Over it! How I wish I could master the art of travelling light ...
