Today, we took a day trip to Hiroshima. Not many words can express what we saw and experienced there and all we can say is that everyone must travel to this place to learn about the inhumanity that this city was unfairly dealt. Due to the sensitive nature of what happened to Hiroshima the morning of August 6th, 1945 I will refrain from saying too much so that it is not misunderstood.
This is an amazing city, quite beautiful and very vibrant and strong considering its resent past. We were quite amazed by the fact that all over Japan we encountered hoards of tourists mostly japanese and sometimes americans at every historical site but for some reason those people seemed to be absent here. As we walked through the Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims designed in 2002 by Kenzo Tange we had it entirely to ourselves. This was a very emotional experience, very hard as we read and listened to victims accounts of their experiences of the dropping of the first atomic bomb. There were many graphic pictures drawn by children and adults and tons of disturbing photographs. As hard as it was we needed to sit there and read those stories and to understand just how truley horrible that event was to etch in our minds and hearts what war truley is and was and how it brings out the worst in mankind. No human being deserves what was done to the people of Japan and I only hope that we don't repeat our mistakes.
