Backpack Party!!
Well aren't I good hey, Im keeping very up to date with this thing at the moment!!! I think that I have stolen Mums and Pauls powers of journal writing, they have not updated since we were in Curitiba....ages ago!!
I promised to write something interesting for you today, so I promise I will leave out all salad related incidents!!!lol.
Im really tired now, as like I said, I have had a hardcore tourist day today, plus, because the Hostel is right on the main road, Avenue de Mayo, which has the Congress Buildings and the Government Buildings on it, it is ALWAYS busy...even at 3 o clock in the morning...so I kept on waking up every time my earplugs fell out.
I tell thee...if it aint the Mother Train Snoring down your earholes, its Argentinian Traffic!!!lol. It is a great location, though. Down the road on the left is the Rosa Palace, the place where Eva Peron used to stand on the balcony, you know the one....
Talking of Eva Peron, we decided to go and check out a few Eva related sights today, and walked through the whole city to get to the Cematrio de Recoleta, where she is buried.
The cemetary is absolutely vast, and is filled with ornate tombs and crypts of all the important people. Some of them had about 15 people in them, whole families!!Which, I know probably sounds really depressing, but it actually wasnt! Some of them are absolutely huge, and a lot of them are really ornate and beautiful. And the place wasnt spooky or anything, there was a kind of calmness about it.
The ones for all the statesmen, and rulers are all looked after by the government, and are all really well maintained, but it was quite sad that some of the private ones had gone to ruin, with all rubbish and cracked glass in them. Actually, one strange thing, is that some of them were just open, I mean just the Oak coffins, not anything coverring them, like marble or anything, just the coffin...sat there with the person inside, which would never be allowed in England!!! And is kinda wierd to think that a dead person that has been there since 1800 and something, is just...there!!
Spookily,in one of the open tombs, a family of black cats had decided to make a home on one of the coffins, which I found a bit disconcerting, as when I looked in, all I saw was bright eyes glaring back at me!!! I must admit that could have been a bit scary if I hadnt of seen them scurry in beforehand!!lol.
Mum was absolutely in her element, though, she was loving it, looking at all the coffins and the designs of the tombs. I suppose that it stems from her time working in the funeral business though.
Eva Perons tomb wasnt actually as big as I thought that it would be, considering that she was married to the Argentinian leader, and that she was buried in his family tomb, but it was quite pretty, and people had been there and put fresh flowers on it.
I did think that it was a bit strange that people were posing for photos by it, though. Like, hello..this is someones grave, not Disneyland!! But, hey, each to there own I suppose!
Afterwards, we made the treck to the other side of the city to get to the Eva Peron Museum, which was quite interesting, despite the lack of presence of that much information written in English. But I got the general gist of it, and gathered that she fought for the rights of the people, and fronted the female rights movement, and that when she died her body was stolen, and taken to Italy, where it was buried under a false name, and was only discoverred, and returned years later. Actually quite fascinating stuff!!
But, I have seen the movie with Madonna in it, so it wasnt really that new to me! hehe. I bet people will think that Im a right cretin for saying that!!!lol.
Somehow, we managed to survive the subway and found our way back safely. Which is actually no mean feat, as none of us know any great deal of Spanish...still, apart from the absolute essentials, like tea with milk, please!!lol.
Ooo...almost forgot to tell you, something quite strange has happened!! There are 3 girls that were in the same Hostel as us in Rio, that have been travelling on a seperate route to us down the coast, that we have so far met in the same Hostel in Florionapolis...and now they are here in the same Hostel in Buenos Aires!!!! How random is that!! I think that they may be stalking us....lol.
I dont blame them though...If I were them, I would!!lol.
Anyway, offski now to do the paper journal that I didnt get chance to write in yesterday before Mum goes to sleep again....
Love you loads and loads!!! Hope that you are all ok!!!
Please keep in touch and take care of yourselves!!!!
