Hi again - another postcard so quick but the Internet Cafe is pretty cheap and has air con so it's nice to spend 1/2 an hour or so in here to cool down. Well as I mentioned yesterday as was going to see if I could hook up with any of the girls at the hostel to sample the Cairns nightlife and sure enough I met Kirstan - Kirstan is from Holland is great to chat to and we kind of hit it off straight away. So we went for our free backpackers dinner (here if you're a backpacker you get vouchers for free food in bars which I find hard to figure out) and had a big bowl of pasta. After that we opted for the cinema (again 1/2 price entry for backpackers who have a voucher from their hostel). Choice was Harry Potter (which I did not really fancy) or Wolf Creek which is what we opted for. And what a bloody scarey film - if you get the chance and it's showing in the UK go see. It's based on a true story about 3 backpackers in the outback and it's pretty gruesome stuff and both Kirstan and I sat with our hands over our faces for most of the film and at one point nearly had to walk out. Well after that we needed a stiff drink or two so hit the bars which were all pretty terrible and filled with very drunk young backpackers - and we tried most of them. Anyway, we're both considering trying to rent a campervan between the two of us after I've done Cape Trib and Port Douglas and then driving down the East Coast but looking around this am there's not many around to choose from and it's pretty expensive but if we can find a 3rd person very doable so will let you know. Pictures soon - not worth taking any of Cairns as it's pretty ugly here but should imagine Port Douglas and trip to Cape Trib will provide some nice snapshots to make you all jealous!! xxx
