WHERE VIV'S AT...
Well it might as well be called Bungytown - honestly we've been here for about 2 days and I've lost count of the amount of conversations we've had that go along the lines of:
Stranger: So have you bungyed yet?
Me/Erica: Nope, not our thing really
Stranger: Wot!!!! so why you here? You really don't know what you're missing
Me/Erica: Yes we do and we'd rather stick our head down a toilet.
Stranger: You're mad.
Me/Erica: !!!????
So, anyway as you've guessed I've hooked up with Erica in Christchurch and we've made our way to Queenstown by bus where we're staying in this great little lodge right on the edge of the town. We've come here as it's a great base to see so many other things around the region, and regardless what people think of Queenstown and it being the centre for adrenaline junkies it really is lovely here and there's a lot more to the place then bungy jumping off very very high bridges or mad dog boarding in the rapids or even The Shootover Canyon Swing (whatever that is).
Queenstown is set in a valley in moutains on the edge of a beautiful lake and autumn has come early (great!!) so the natural scenery of gold, red, dark greens, yellows and pinks makes the place look very pretty and in the afternoon the sun shines so it's bliss for us sun-lovers.
Ok so we're not into bungy jumping etc. but we do book and spend a whole day doing something far more dangerous. Yep a whole day tasting wine in the Otago Vineyards and as well as pretty good wine (Pinot Noir is the thing around here) we see some really lovely places (and we're not just talking winerys here).
We get back in the evening and decide to sample more of the stuff to keep us warm and also sample the Queenstown nightlife (good stuff).
And today we went to Glenorchy for a cruise and had the boat to ourselves and it was just lovely (thanks for the tip Beth). We're off now to sample more of the nightlife here (well you have to) and then tomorrow we're going to do the luge at the top of the moutain - see we're not scaredy cats at all.
