After 23 hours of travelling from Bangkok we finally made it to our apartment after a day filled with endless train, boat and bus rides (with the occasional heavy lifting of the backpacks). We arrived at our apartment in the evening and crashed in our room. We were pleasantly surprised to find that we had been upgraded and therefore had our own bathroom, a tv and a fridge!
On our first day we headed for the beach which was is a 5 minute walk and began to work on our tans. That evening we went to the Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan. We booked our tickets but the taxi which was supposed to arrive at ten didn't show up. Eventually at 11.30 the owners of the apartments kindly offered to take us to the pier to catch the speedboat. After a few brief moments of relief when the boat turned up not everyone could fit. Although we had managed to make it on the boat it was too heavy and 8 peoiple had to get off. No one was keen to volunteer to go which ended up in people fighting on the boat. We eventually made it to Koh Phangan after a less then succesful start to the evening but got into the swing of the things with luminous face painting, glow sticks and alcahol buckets! When we headed back to the pier to catch our boat back to Koh Samui we weren't too impressed to find the same lady who was causing the fights on the way here to be waiting for the same boat! When we finally made it home at 7am we were ready for bed!
We went on a day tour to Angthong National Marine Park whre we spent the morning snorkeling near Koh Wow island. Our next stop was to the Emerald Lake, on our way passing an island shapoed like a monkey! At the lake we climbed up very steep and narrow stairs to various view points and lagoons which were stunning. After our walk we had worked up our appetites for a Thai style lunch although luckily we stopped past a shop for Harri! In the afternoon we went kayaking around the island and got to go inside the caves (and get stuck!) In the evening we went out with three Australian girls that we had met on the tour. We went to an Ice Bar where we had fun dressing up in furry hats and massive coats! We each had cocktails served in ice cups and ejoyed messing around with the iced tuktuk!
Tomorrow we'll be heading for Koh Phangan for a couple of days for more of the Thai sunshine.
