So today I did a little bit of research about where I might want to go on my weekend travels. Yeah, still have no idea. I was thinking about going to Vienna, Austria one weekend to fulfill a life dream that Ive always had of seeing the Lipizzaner stallions perform in the actual Spanish Riding School or as they say in German Spanische Hofreitschule.
However, I found out today that the actual stallions are on their "summer break" during the months of July and August and thus will not be performing. PLUS it is a 10 hour train ride to get from the Chiusi stazione (Montepulciano train station) to Vienna, not including the slight layovers in the 3 different train stations I would have to pass through. Yes, I would have to take 3 different trains to get there! That's a lot of time just for travelling. However, if I DID end up going, they are having a special exhibit at the school displaying the Lipizzan mares and foals which would in itself be amazing to see! I could watch the morning warmups/practices, tour the stables, then see the exibit about the Piber Stud Farm (where the horses are born). That would be really cool to see.
So as you can probably tell, I have an animated debate running around in my brain right now -- to go or not to go. Would it be worth the 10 hour train ride? Would it be worth the price of the train and exhibit tickets? Will I regret NOT going? This is a decision that really only I can make...I just dont know.
What I am really trying to decide is, do I get train tickets ahead of time when they are slightly cheaper, or do I wait until I get to Italy and see what everyone else is doing? I know for sure that I want to go to Venice and Pompeii/Herculaneum. I just dont know what I would want to do the other three weekends that I will be free to travel. These are big decisions and I want to make the right ones!
