Kiran, Daniel and I got into Lima around 5:30pm on Friday. I had booked into Pariwana hostel in Miraflores (the tourist district) whilst they had booked into a place elsewhere in the same area. No surprises when I say that the cabbie had problems finding their street. Luckily he was honest enough and didnt ask for more money than the S/15 we had agreed. I grabbed some BBQ at my hostel and got chatting to an American/Canadian couple over a few drinks. Our group gradually got bigger and more international. The hours flew by. Happy hour was my undoing as a few strong cocktails hit me hard and I called it a night around 1am.
The following day was pretty relaxed. I woke up late, slightly hung over and headed to the Malecon. I strolled for around 2-3 hours, watching the surfers attempt to master the waves and sitting in the small parks that skirt the cliff edges along the beach. I saw various monuments such as the lighthouse and the Lovers Statue in Jardin del Amor. It was a very relaxing day and this was a beautiful part of Lima. I also managed to get some shopping done ahead of my Inca Trail, buying a set of thermals which it had been recommended I wear for the cold mountain nights. That evening I met Daniel and Kiran, as well as their friend Richard, an American-Colombian for food and we later headed to a couple of local bars for drinks.
I called it a night around 1:30am and headed back to the hostel (sober this time). The next morning I met up with an English guy called Pete who was also headed to Huacachina. We grabbed a bus around midday and headed for the desert.
