An interesting tidbit to show we aren't in Virginia anymore, last night (Thursday) it got down to thirty-five degrees. Thank you lord for electric heat!
We had in interesting day. We started off by returning to Custer State Park to take a truly scenic drive up to Rushmore. The drive was great, three small tunnels that framed Rushmore as you drive through.
In order to kill some time, we took a three mile hike through the prairies. It was very pretty and not too strenous except in a few spots. Surprisingly (to us anyway), we had a lot of company on the trail.
For the most part we saw a lot less wildlife today. The only exception would be pronghorn antelope of which we saw oodles. We also saw some wild turkeys otherwise, very unremarkable. We are very glad we also went through yesterday.
The drive up to Rushmore was absolutely gorgeous if a little twisty, turny and narrow. We both really liked it.
Rushmore was interesting but about as expected. The most interesting thing for both of us was to compare and contrast it with the Crazy Horse Memorial. It is apparent that the sculptors had some competition going. The sculptor at Crazy Horse started out working on Rushmore and the primary sculptor at Rushmore was the first choice to do the Crazy Horse Memorial.
The next two days, we will be driving through Wyoming on our way to Utah. We don't plan to stop much so there probably won't be much to say so maybe no blog entry.
