Namaste from Nepal! We are sitting here since 8 hours waiting for our flight with "Yeti" airline (it's a good name showing the level of service) to Pokhara. Till today morning everything was great: flight with the elegant arab Etihad airways, taxi transfer from the airport to our hotel Sacred Valley Inn, the fine vegetarian dinner in the very exotic O2K restaurant. We felt immediately on our way from the airport, that this is one of the purest country of the world and extremely unpredictable: "when nothing is certain, everything is possible" - this saying should be born here.
We never and nowhere experienced this level of chaos, trash, dust, fuel smell, noise... but a lot of smiling, kindness, friendly people - it's a great contrast. We spent one hour in the taxi sitting in one of the biggest trafic jam in Asia. And what we saw in the outer part of the capital... it's too hard to describe it, pictures will give you some impression later.
But back to our stuckness in the airport... I organised from home with great difficulties the flight tickets paying 200 USD for the 20 minutes, less than 200 km flight, because we didn't want to spend 10 hours on a bus with 20 km/ h average speed due to the road conditions. Now I can see clearly, that we will spend min. 10 hours too, uselessly paying 10 times more... Lesson 1 learnt in Nepal: Don't prepare and expect anything in advance! Have a lot of time and let the things go on their ways :-)
When we arrived to the airport the lady at the front desk mentioned, that due to the bad weather some small delay could be happen. Ok, we know that this small aircrafts don't have radars and robot pilot - if the pilot can't see it could be fatal, so we were relaxed in the first few hours. We made some big mistakes at the chech in: we left our food and water in our checked baggages, due to the 5 kg limit for carry on baggages. So now we are "eating" our rescue Kinder chocolate and an 80 g almond package. In the fifth hour we bought a half liter bottled water for 4 USD... and the feeling is unimaginable... 1000 nepales and western trekkers lying on the ground, some angry american cancels his fligt after a half day delay, some buddhist monk prays on a matrac... And at 3:30 pm the Yeti announce the No. 675 flight to Pokhara... With bus we should arrive exactly now to Pokhara... We are sitting in a small bus together with another 25 french, german, american, etc "adventure" trekkers... and the real adventure: the flight will begin hopefully soon... If we will survive it- I'm joking only, of course we will... To be countinued from our Pokhara hotel :-)
And happy end of this - 180 km, 25 min. flight (with extra 8 hours waiting) - I upload this short story from our nice lakeside room from Pokhara. From the airplane's window we were amazed by the white peaks of the Himalayas, which we will start to hike tomorrow... sorry, will start maybe, if the God living on the top of the Maccapuchhre wants it in the same way!!! :-)
