It turns out I am not in such a rush as I went over my internet time by 9 seconds and therefore I have been charged an extra 50 cents. Ridiculous I know, but I will use that time to update you all. I arrived yesterday morning in Forli at about 10.30am local time (9.30 GMT) after many hours unrest at Stansted over night. You can understand why no one sleeps well there with a million rules and a cold hard floor to sleep on under what seem like 10 000 watt light bulbs. Really not comfortable, and check in was about an hour and a half long, why they don't open more gates when they have 200 of them is beyond me.
So after all that now, I am in Ravenna, a seaside town near Forli in Italy. All I did yesterday was carry over 20kg of bags around town in the scorching heat with no food or water. I had a map but was just going round in circles all the time. It really was hellish and I wanted to go home. I didn't find the campsite (or rather I wasn't picked up by a local who found me crying by the roadside and taken there) until at least five and then had to pitch my tent- IN SAND. Not impressed. The pitch was huge, you could fit 4 or 5 of my tents on there and still have room to spare, but it is difficult to put the pegs in the ground when it is based on sand. Thus I was woken this morning by a wet sensation as my tent had caved in on itself because the pegs had come out of the ground and the condensation had collected on the walls. A refreshing start to my day.
Today I visited Dante's tomb, and a lovely church of somebody important which was absolutely beautiful. There was the sound of monks chanting inside and it was so peaceful. So different to the hustle and bustle outside in the streets. I could've stayed there all day! Must go before I get charged again.
Bye xxx
