What a cute little village! It'a like going back in time to the Gold Rush days, which is how this place originated back in ... Today was the perfect day to take it easy and relax as it was mostly raining. We found accommodation at the New Orleans Hotel and dashed in between raindrops and puddles2 from quaint shop to shop.
We had lunch at the famous Arrowtown Bakery which makes deeeeelicious pies. I had a tender, juicy venison pie with salad and sat by the hotel's fireplace for an afternoon siesta. In a short while I start chatting to a lovely Kiwi couple from Canterbury, Richard and Mary. They own a dairy farm with about 800 cows and were telling me about the places we should see in and around the South Island - can't wait to explore more of this beautiful country! They've invited us to stay with them for a night when we head up north - would love to take them up on the offer as I've never stayed on a Dairy farm before and they seem like such lovely people.
I feel like I'm going through something of a culinary renaissance here - all the food is sooooo delicious, fresh and affordable! I gotta take it easy or I'll be rolling out of NZ and rolling into Polynesia, where, I've heard that they appreciate the fuller figure in that part of the world.
As it was still raining, we decided to go to the Cinema to see "The Most Exotic Marigold Hotel". Afterwards, lamb burger for dinner and then feet up in front of the hotel fireplace with a glass of local Pinot Noir and chatting with the friendly locals. So far, so good New Zealand!
