When you are greeted at the airport by a ukulele group singing island songs and welcomed with a huge smile by a customs official, you just KNOW you've landed in paradise...
Standing in the long customs queue didn't seem half bad when you're tapping our feet to cheerful island tunes! Once we'd cleared immigration we found out from the helpful Nadi Airport staff that there was an express bus which would drop us off just outside the Pearl South Pacific Resort in Pacific Harbour at the south of the main island of Viti Nevu. At only $12 (Fiji Dollars), it would be worth the wait and the 3-hour long drive as opposed to taking a $160 taxi.
The bus left the airport at 6pm, so the 3-hour long trip took place in tue dark. After a couple of police checkpoints and a snack stop at Sigatoka Market, we finally arrived at the hotel. Wow, such luxury - especially after some of the dumps we've stayed in - this is more like it!
We found a special last-minute deal on Expedia which enables us to stay in a 4-star hotel for less than £30 each per night (including a lavish buffet breakfast) and free activities and use of non-motorised sport equipment. Our room has 2 king-size beds, a TV, a balcony overlooking the beautifully maintained gardens and a spacious bathroom. Aaahhhh, time to relax!
