We took the Mekong Express Luxury Limousine bus service from Saigon to Pnomh Penh. A great bus service - driver was good, service was excellent and we got here safely. There was a tour guide making his way home and he took us under his wing and explained things to us. We had a delicious meal at a roadside stop en route which has convinced is that we should do a cooking class in Siem Reap. Everyone has been really friendly, accommodating and gone out of their way to be nice to us.
Tomorrow we begin the 1st day of orientation. We will meet other fellow volunteers and get a crash course in Cambodian culture, history and cover some basic language/phrases.
Unfortunately, we are in a weird part of town. We took a walk around earlier and there's not much to see. It's an uneasy mix of slum dwellings, backpacker hostels and embassies (Vietnamese, Cuban and German buildings are just around the corner). Will hopefully get a chance to do some sightseeing near the Riverside, go to the Palace and take a sobering trip to Pol Pott's prison.
