Coming towards the end of my time in India now. It's been eventful to say the least - went ankle deep into cow poo at the Taj Mahal (You don't see that on the postcard!), got chased by a bull on the beach in Goa, sang karoke at an Indian couples engagement party and now that I've spent the past week in bed fighting off some sort of food poisoning I feel like I have completed the 'India experience' to the full!
Dan and I are planning to head to the east for the remainder of our trip, were going to visit the City of Lights; Varanasi during the Festival of Light; Diwali, so hopefully this should brighten up what is known as a city of death. Apparently Hindus believe if you die in Varanasi you attain instant enlightment, so alot of elderly widowers come here to live out their final days.
Apart from that spiritual and slightly depressing side of it, it is home to the legendary River Ganges so no doubt a boat trip will be in order. After Varanasi we will be heading over to Palamau National Park to ride elephants and see the tigers, then its off to Kolkata or the Black Hole as my Grandad keeps telling me, to catch our flight to Bangkok. I'm not sure how I'll cope in a world where I can't eat curry for breakfast, lunch and dinner but I'm sure I won't miss smelling like one!
