Vegas in Australia
This morning we travelled from Byron Bay to Surfers Paradise on the Greyhound, which meant that we left New South Wales and went into the state of Queensland, also gaining an hour because of the different time zones. As we drove into Surfers I noticed loads of high rise buildings, neon flashing lights and fast food chains - kind of like being on the Costa del Sol or Vegas (not that I've been there!). We checked into the Islander Resort Hotel, which is weirdly a hostel and a hotel. We spent the rest of the afternoon on the beach, until the sun went down. Although the beach front is very built up, the beach itself is really nice. In the evening we went to a restaurant and all ordered pizza, which we couldn't finish, and so took the rest home for lunch tomorrow! We also went to a really good market along the esplanade - it had loads of unusual stuff that I would have bought if I'd money and room for it!
