Started the day later today and met up with Bobby, an old school mate from St Thomas's. Haven't seen him in about 17 years... thank facebook for the way it connects people back up. He's been in the French Alps snowboarding and came to Paris for a few weeks.
Walked around Notre Dame and got up closer to get some good pictures. Tried to find a place to change my Travellers Cheques but the banks are so wierd here in Paris, they don't change money?! All the big banks like HSBC and BNP Paribas told me to go to a money exchange place which I really didn't want to go because they charge ridiculous commision. But after 3 or 4 banks tell you the same thing I think it must be the way they do things here.
Walked around the area and all the way up the Seine to the Louvre (again), the Invalides which was really nice with its gold dome. We kept walking up the Seine to Musee d'Orsay which I really want to go in to visit (maybe tomorrow), and then we walked all the way from Musee d'Orsay to the Eiffel Tower.
For anyone who has been here, that is a VERY long way to walk from the Louvre to Eiffel Tower. But it was really good to catch up with Bobby and hear what he's been up to. Also stopped here and there to buy stuff from patisseries etc. The pastries and baguettes are so yummy here.
Got back to the hostel and met Elaine (Australia) and Felix (San Francisco) who just moved in to my room. We tried to go out to find an African restaurant which Felix spotted but I think it was closed because we wandered around trying to find it for ages but couldn't. Ended up at an Italian restaurant and tried some escargots which weren't too bad! Maybe it was italian style escargots but nevertheless, good first impression of snails.
