So glad to be out of Bangkok, I disliked it more each day I was there bar the 1st day!!
We had a 12 hour overnight bus from Bangkok to Chiang Mai. Our seats reclined quite far and we were given blankets, it was quite nice. There was also a film on, clearly a pirate copy it wasb in English with English subtitles, and my favourite 'translation' was "open up your ass" for open your ears..
Already love it here the streets are so quite off the main road and there isn't a constant stream of people wanting you to buy something or asking where you're going and if you want a tuk tuk!
We were unable to check into our room till 12 as it was occupied, so we met up with Rowan and had breakfast at the rooftop terrace in his hostel, and spoke with a lovely lady working there called Honey!
We wondered round the town, and decided to go to the cultural centre, it was all about tge history of Chiang Mai and wad quite interesting. I was approached by some schoolgirls who had a list of questions in English hey needed to complete for school!
After that we got an ice cream and came back to the hostel. We went to the cinema that afternoon at a huge shopping complex and saw the new X-Men, we all enjoyed it and I saw the scene I had seen them filming in Oxford!
We had some dinner and then made our way to the TaePhae Stadium to watch some live Muay Thai Boxing! It was really good fun in the first fight one boy (14 years) was knocked out by a kick, in the first round. The second fight had to end because one got elbowe on the head and didn't get back up!! There was a womans round which wasn't as good, but they lasted the whole 5 rounds. There were 7 fights in total and the final one was between Poland and Thailand, the Pole won, but he did tower above the Thai guy!
