Vic and Russ's travel blog 2011
After the amazing Whitsunday Islands, we had to downgrade and get on a coach for 13 hours to Hervey Bay, where you get a ferry across to Fraser Island, the worlds largest sand island.
The weather was mixed, but the Island has a diverse environment - forest scrub that meets the beach, Lake McKenzie which is so clear and a shipwreck on the beach. You can drive a 4x4 along the beach, which is really popular with tourists. The sea is off limits, and we were surrounded by sharks- comforting thought :-)
It isnt the prettiest of Islands, but was great to pop there for the day and exoerience a backpackers favourite.
