Summary of the New York Week
Well I arrived early evening in New York on Monday 17th and met Russell at the airport. His plane was due in after mine. We then got a shuttle from the airport directly to the hotel. Once at THE POD HOTEL we made ourselves at home and then decided to go wander in the area that the hotel was in. That night we indulged in some Mickey D's and then headed back to hotel.
The following morning we decided that we would go to the Empire State Building. So we headed downtown on the subway. Once at the Empire State we bought our city pass which gets us in to 6 attractions and was much cheaper than paying individual admissions. So we bought our passes and then went through all the necessary security checks before getting to the lift and going to the 83rd floor of the building. Once at the top it was extremely breezy and very cold as you would probably expect in November. As it was a clear day you could see for about 25 miles and the views we excellent. After that we got a well deserved hot drink and went for a wander. Eventually we headed back to the hotel and relaxed before heading to Thai 51 for dinner. I had Pad Thai which was delicious and then we headed back to the hotel to chill.
Wednesday - today we had decided to go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The exhibits were very interesting, lots to see and we didn't look at everything. But what we saw was good and very interesting. After meandering through the museum and the shop we headed towards Bloomingdales where we pondered what to buy for a mere few minutes. After buying a few things we headed downtown to Macys where more purchases were made but this time not by me. After walking around 2 department stores we headed back to hotel where I decided that it was time to indulge in Taco Bell (for the first time ever!).
Thursday - Today we headed downtown again to the ferry terminal to get on the circle line - well at first we were wanting to do the 2 hour cruise but we paid the extra $4 and did the 3 hour house around all the islands. After a breezy journey around the islands with some excellent views we headed uptown again towards the famous Grays Papaya hot dog place where we had the recession special which was 2 dogs for $3 (BARGAIN!!) We then walked towards central park where we looked around a bit at the south end - seeing people ice skating on the wollman rink etc. We then went in search of the famous Serendipity 3 Cafe. We found it eventually and had to wait a mere 5 minutes before being seated at a very small table where I indulged in a frozen hot chocolate which was delicious and would definitely have it again in a heartbeat. After having our desserts we headed to another sweet place DYLANS CANDY BAR!!!! Oh what a place for anyone who has a sweet tooth. It was crammed full of sweet treats and some candy bars with obscure names too! After buying enough candy to feed the masses we left and headed to bloomingdales again where this time russell was the one making the purchases! After a look around and being linched by a perfume lady we headed back to the hotel to relax for the rest of the evening.
Friday - Today we had our breakfast at Europa Cafe and then went to the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The museum was really good and probably my favourite of the ones I visited in NYC. MoMA also had a really good shop full of really interesting items for all ages. After we headed to Rockefeller Center to have a look around but much to my disappointment the christmas tree was hidden behind a big sign a lots of scaffolding . We then headed up to FAO Schwarz where we spent quite a bit of time looking at all the toys and I bought a few items. After we went in to Trump Tower and then back to the hotel where we chilled out for a while but then went to Wendys for dinner (more burgers!!!!)
Saturday - Today we went to the American Museum of Natural History where we looked at some of the exhibits but not all of them as that would take a whole day if not longer. We then walked through quite a bit of Central Park which was really nice but very cold. We then went back to Macys and I went in to Old Navy and bought a few things for myself and other people. For dinner we went to TGI Fridays not far from the Hotel.
Sunday - We went to the Guggenheim Museum where we had some breakfast in the cafe and then looked around but we weren't impressed with the exhibits at all. So we spent about an hour in there took a picture of the building which was more impressive than the inside. We then went and bought our I heart NY t-shirts and went over to Times Square where we had dinner in the Olive Garden. We then looked in a few more shops and then went back to the hotel.
Thats the trip to NYC rounded up pretty much now on to the next city...............
