Well you know it has been too long since your last post when you can't even remember the name of your blog!! Ooops!! Well most of you know me well enough to expect this, and so I will just say Lo siento (that's spanish for "I'm sorry" by the way) for the delay and I will do my best to sum the last 5 months up as briefly as possible (I am still working on being brief however!! hehe).
So to pick up from where I left off.....from Mexico, the road brought Mo, Steve, and I to Belize, to the beautiful white sands of Caye Caulker (I would say white sand 'beaches' but there isn't really much of a beach, more so the sand is just everywhere in the streets and then the sea begins!). But it is a very quaint little island and we settled in nicely to the laid-back lifestyle, reading, jewellery making, swimming. I also decided to splurge and make the trip out for a dive in the infamous Blue Hole, my main motivation, the hope of experiencing that heart stopping moment when you come face to face with a Hammerhead or any type of large meat eating shark!! But alas, I had to be satisfied with a faint view of some bull sharks many metres below. I did however find myself lost in the eyes of a HUGE grouper that was attempting to lure me to the very depths of the ocean (I think I was experiencing a little Nitrogen Narcosis which is equivalent to being a little or a lot drunk), but thanks to my Divemaster I snapped out of it and remembered I should probably start swimming for the surface!
I left Mo and Steve in Belize about a week later, hopped the ferry to Honduras and landed myself back in Utila to start my Divemaster. I found the island in pretty much the same condition as when I left it 2 years ago, with maybe a few more motorbikes and cars. I started the course shortly thereafter and 5 weeks later I passed my final test....the traditional but dreaded Snorkel Test!!!
The next day I started work as Cross Creek's Divemaster, which for those of you who don't know, is pretty much an underwater tour guide!! It's a great job, taking people into an environment that many have just begun to exlpore and at the same time discovering new things for yourself everyday. I am living at the centre in the Divemaster Palace, a wooden box with various dormrooms/saunas, but am lucky enough to have one all to myself, and in the morning I just stumble out the door and there I am at work, so it is very convenient. Life on the island is fairly cheap if you are careful and if your employer is nice enough to supply you with a place to live and cook. I also continue to subsidize my income with my jewellery so the sweatshop will have to kick it up a notch to hopefully take advantage of what business the high season will bring...
At the moment however, I am on 'holidays', which i am sure most of you are shaking your heads at, but hey what's a girl to do, sometimes you just gotts get away. So I am back in Santa Teresa, visiting Oscar and other friends, and experiencing what the Low Season really means here....wow, this place really shuts down...But it has been good for body and soul, and production for that matter, new ideas keep coming and I am just trying to keep up....
And so that brings us up to date....from here I am headed back to the island before they give my job away, and from there, well, who knows......
So, I hope all is well wherever this might find you! I wanted to say Congratulations to all of you who recently decided to tie the knot and to all, and there are MANY, who have made new additions to their families!!! I expect many pictures Por Favor!! Miss you all muchly!!
All My Love
