'Verity's Travels'
Hi all!
It's been a few weeks again since I've updated my journal and now i've finally got round to adding to it. I'm in New Zealand, been here for two weeks now. Spent the first few days in Christchurch which is quite a small city but I had a much needed break after my hetic (and very fun!) time in Australia.
The real fun began when I started the Kiwi Experience a week and a half ago. It's a novelty touring in a group, a nice change from long Greyhound journeys with random, sometimes strange Australians! The first day was spent driving west which involved driving through the mountans and seeing a beautiful waterfall after a steep climb in Arthurs National Park. It was beautiful but New Zealand has amazed me more and more everyday as it seems to get more beautiful, just when I think it couldn't anymore. I'm sure those of you who have been here would agree with me.
The next few days were spent driving on the fun Kiwi Experience bus through amazing coastal roads. Saturday night was a chance for everyone to get to know each other so we had a lovely steak dinner cooked for all of us and then had a party in the bar of the hostel, the theme was bin bags. Basically you had to make a costume out of bin bags, it was a good night!
Sunday we arrived in a place called Fraz Josef, which I think is one of my favourite spots since I've been travelling. There are huge snow capped mountains there alongside mountains covered in pine trees by a lake. It was stunning! Our accomodation was awesome, it was little log cabins, a great bar and resturant and a sauna and a hot tub with amazing views of the mountains.
Wednesday we headed to Queenstown and got to watch a good few guys from our bus do bungy jumps, I felt sick for them! The drivers were winding me up saying that they had booked me in for a jump to get over my fear of heights and for a change I didn't believe them! Queenstwon was loads of fun, had some great nights out there and bumped into another few people from University of Surrey. They took mug shots earlier on in the day and had them on a big screen in the club. Everyones photo flashes up which is quite amusing in itself and if it stays on your photo you win sky dives etc. One of the girls and the guy from my dorm both won. They also had an hour of endless teapots for friend. These teapots were cocktails which you drink from the spout, very odd but apparently a tradition. (did you do that Kat at The World Bar?!)
Just having lots of fun on the Kiwi Experience and getting to wake up and be abround snbow capped mountains is just something else :) There was snowfall the other night so they look very pretty. In the marine captial of the world now so I went ot see lots of seals this morning. They just hang out on the beach and I managed to get about two meters from one of them, but it then started to get a but annoyed so I more swiftly! The seals were huge! Tomorrow if the weather is ok we're going to swim woth dolhpins in the sea. The water was too choppy today to go out sailing so i have my fingers crossed for tomorrow.
Have just under two weeks left in New Zealand before we're off to Fiji. I'm loving it here and can really see why so many people rave about it. It's SWEET AS!!!!!!!! (That's an expression that they use out here ALL the time).
Well, had better go.
hope you're all well.
Verity x
