Updates from South East Asia!
Argh life!!
This last 24 hours has been absolutely crazy... Getting used to being back in Thailand and trying to run around like crazy people sorting out last minute souvenirs, organising transport to the airport and getting our head around the fact that we're flying to Sri Lanka for 2 weeks. As if that wasn't enough we still couldn't get hold of my elusive uncle. We tried to hunt him down at work where we were informed that my oh-so-reliable uncle had gone on holiday to Pattaya for a few days. Um, OH MY GOD, how the hell are we going to fly home in 2 days when our luggage and, more importantly, our tickets are at Damian's?! We were told that he'd be back on thursday (the day we fly) but we had no idea what time or how to find him as we didn't have his address. We sat laughing hysterically for a few minutes and allowed the ridiculous situation we'd got ourselves into to sink in. Once the hysteria had subsided we tried to sort out what we could possibly do. Luckily, (about time luck showed its face, it's been avoiding us lately) Dave spotted one of Damian's mates across the bar and said mate was lovely and helpful and rang his friends, who rang their friends etc etc until we finally tracked him down. Fortunately Damian said he was coming back the next day so we'd be able to get our stuff before our flight. Halleluia, we thought and went to bed.
This morning, however, there was an email awaiting me from STA travel with all our ticket details (the guy had previously been on holiday when we emailed pleading for assistance in changing our flight details) saying he hoped there was still a chance to change the ticket. Dave had gone to have his teeth whitened so off I toddled to Emirates Bangkok office. Amazingly, as we'd rang before to change the flight they'd reserved it, meaning we didn't have to give the usual three days notice and voila! we're off to Cambodia. Simple as that. Much rejoicing on my behalf followed-Dave was somewhat subdued due to just having had his gums burned to within an inch of their life (ironically with "protection" gel) and teeth scraped so violently it hurt him to talk. Still tis fantastic news. We spent a happy day shopping in Khao San and we're off out to drop even more crap at my uncle's apartment now (with very clear instructions regarding the time and date of our return) and then we're going out for a few drinks with him and my Australian cousin (called Bruce. Go on, you can laugh) who's visiting from Sydney. We're up at an inhuman hour tomorrow morning (something approaching 5 am I think) to set off for the train to the Cambodian border. Soo excited, can't wait to see Angkhor!
Anyway, looks like we won't be in Sri Lanka for more than 8 hours which is a bit of a relief. Hopefully we'll be able to leave the airport and explore Colombo a bit partly because it'll be a lot better than sitting in the departure lounge for 8 hours but mostly so we get the all-important stamps in our passports. See you all soon! Loadsa love Jx
