Today we got the bus to Puno on Lake Titicaca which is even higher than Cuzco so the altitude sickness is here to stay a while (oh joy!) The bus we booked was the tourist bus which stops along the way to look at touristy things. Our first stop was to a church - I thought I could no longer be impressed by gold leaf and idols but I was wrong it was unbelievably pretty. Our guide Jonas was very helpful but his english was very difficult to understand. One of the english guys on the trip kept asking him to repeat himself but it just ended up like differing scenes from Pink Panther films. We did ask the english guy and his girlfriend to stop with the questions as the ensuing conversation just sent Nick and I into fits of uncontrollable laughter. They did lay off but unfortunately our mention of the Pink Panther just set them off as well so it ended up with all four of us laughing all day. Arrived at Puno at 7pm and got a taxi to the hostel which is at the top of the mountain of course. The owner is very friendly but very difficult to find under her 10 layers of clothing, apparantley night time temperatures here can get as cold as 4 degrees celsius (baltic!!). She was amazed when we refused to take the extra four blankets she had. She will be even more amazed when Nick turns up for breakfast in his flip flops and shorts!
