Got to Arequipa late last night. The taxi driver tried to scam us by pretending he had never heard of the hostel we had booked and then saying it was full but we told him to take us there which he eventually did. I have made a new friend in Arequipa called Alexandria she walked into our room at 8.30am this morning took my iphone of me, had a quick look at the apps I had and then asked for Beauty and the Beast on Youtube. After about 1/2 hour we told her we had to go for breakfast, she nodded put my phone in my pocket and came with us. She then went round all the other hostellers at breakfast and got them to make funny faces whilst she videod them with my phone. After breakfast we went back to our room and she followed us and hid under the bed from her mother. Nick gave her his torch to play with which she thought was great fun. Before she finally decided to leave she managed to scam 2 plasters off us and insisted Nick wore matching ones to her. Her parents both work in the hostel and her father was asking Nick about his hearing aid as Alexandria is profoundly deaf and they are trying to get the money together for her to have a cochlea implant. He was amazed when Nick said he got his free in the UK. When we finally got around to leaving the hostel we went to the musuem to see Juanita which is the body of a young girl who was sacrificed by the Incas 500 years ago which was found in 1995. The musuem is full of glass displays containing the items which were found in Juanita's grave. Whilst walking round I managed to walk into one of the displays containing two 500 year old clay urns, our guide looked on in horror as they rocked alarmingly before thankfully staying upright (we did think we might get evicted at that point). Nick couldn't believe I had almost managed to destroy some 500 year old artefacts and guided me through the rest of the tour to ensure I didn't walk into anything else! We are off trekking in the Colca Canyon for three days at 3 am tomorrow so will be offline for a while.

sara it's a wonder Nick didnt give her his hearing aid, as i doubt it's been switched on much with him lately.
