Van Trip 2007
Day 1
Kilometres travelled today.....215
Left home about 10:00am and called at the Caravan Repairer at Tuggerah to have Anderson plug fitted to the towing equipment and adjustment to fridge door, both jobs were completed satisfactorily.
Due to the late departure we decided to head for Scone instead of Gunnedah, stopping at a rest stop just north of Branxton for lunch. it was a lovely sunny morning and the Upper Hunter Valley looked at it's best.
We arrived Scone early afternoon and checked into the Scone Van Park site 29..... $27.00 per night.
It was quite a large site but very muddy.
Scone is a pleasant town of wide, tree-lined streets situated within the Hunter Valley, 283 km north of Sydney and 26 km north of Muswellbrook. It is an important stock-selling centre noted for its horse and cattle studs, and is known as "The Horse Capital of Australia", it claims to be the second-largest horse breeding area in the world, after Kentucky in the United States.
This morning we awoke at 7:30am to a temperature of 4 degrees inside the Van, thank goodness for the electric blankets. We had quite a disturbed night as the Van Park was situated between the New England Highway and the main Northern Railway Line. Trucks rumbling and trains hooting continued throughout the night....but it was all part of the fun !!! of the journey.
