After a low key weekend before it was back on the road again, this time for a long weekend to Nova Scotia and to get our fill of lobster! We flew into Halifax on Thursday night and spent the next morning wondering around the waterfront. Matt managed to find the Garrison brewery and add a couple more beers to his collection and we got a lobster roll and coffee for breakfast. We were on the road around midday to get to our destination in time for dinner. We timed it perfectly for the fall colours and all the trees were a combination of green, red, orange and yellow which was really pretty. It was a really nice drive with a little stop along the way for a snack before we got to our accommodation for the next three nights, Cabot Shores. Dinner was delicious with seafood pasta, gnocchi and some seafood chowder and a couple of beers to make rest super easy that night.
The next day we set aside for a drive around the Cabot Trail and a walk along the Skyline Trail (which was one of the last days of the year we could do it before it closed). Once again it was a beautiful drive with the fall colours and the ocean in the background. We even managed to find a spot for a lobster and another little stop for ice cream before getting back to our accommodation for a woodfire feast and some piano playing by a local legend that seemed to have an endless supply of songs that she knew. The card game unfortunately go Matthew's way, better luck tomorrow. Sunday was long run day and that wiped us out a little bit. Lucky we still had the energy to make it to Baddeck for a lobster each at Baddeck Lobster Suppers and it didn't disappoint! Monday was terrible weather with torrential rain and it made the drive back very slow. Fortunatately we got back just in time for one last lobster before our flight back home.
The following week we began to celebrate Van's 29 + 1 birthday with dinner out at Terroni on Thursday with friends, the Halloween Haunt at Canada's Wonderland (we both managed to keep our frights to a minimum) on Friday night the Argos game at BMO field on Saturday and then some retail therapy on Sunday with a massage to celebrate Van's big day. Matthew is very lucky to have such a wonderful fiancee :-)
