Summary of Day 3
Engine on: 06:30
Engine off for the night: 18:30
KM travelled: 246
Issues/breakdowns: No breakdowns/tuktuk issues for us, but three breakdowns for the 'Kash-mir if you can' (all requiring a mechanic) which added about 6 hours to the trip
Challenges: patience and problem solving.
What was meant to be a relaxed drive to Agra took 6 hours longer than expected. 12 hours for 246km was not the average speed we were aiming for! We started at 6.30am and while we had no breakdowns, our buddies (Kash-mir if you can) had three which took around 6 hours in total. All three required a mechanic for various reasons which ended up taking a bit of time once we'd had a fiddle with the motor. Van reckons Tommy and I jinxed us by saying that 'we'd definitely be in Agra by 1pm,' which I don't agree with, but we won't be guaranteeing any arrival times again! Mechanics are cheap as chips though (I think each repair cost NZD 6 / NOK 35), so that was at least a bonus! My favourite breakdown was the third because loads of kids come to say g'day and I got to tow the broken tuk tuk for around 10km.
Unfortunately we'd treated ourselves to a nice hotel with massages and a pool, but arriving at 6.30pm (and an hour after that for Tommy and Georgina) meant we couldn't really take advantage if that. Another UK team was at the same hotel so we shared some yarns over dinner before getting 5 hours of sleep to get up at 5am to see the Taj Mahal.
